Server Question; Which distro do you prefer for servers? (X-Post from r/LinuxQuestions)

I know most people say Redhat, but I need something that's free. I'm setting up a new server, most likely storage but not certain. Replacing an older server running Ubuntu 7.10. edit: Unix and BSD will work too
