Has anyone implemented LDAP?

Hello,

Is anyone familiar with implementing LDAP on Red Hat systems? I was interested in implementing an LDAP solution where I work to ease administration of users. We have maybe 300 RHEL servers, both 5.x and 6.x. I want to Implement LDAP for Red Hat servers, receiving one-way sync of passwords from MS AD server. Solution must have support from third-party like Red Hat. I am playing with 389-DS in a lab for proof of concept, I will also look at FreeIPA, which is just 389 under the covers, but it's supposed to be easier to install and configure; I don't need the DNS portion, but Kerberos may be desirable. I was thinking of possible autofs of home directories from centralized NFS server; nice, but not a show stopper. Posssible distribution of ssh keys; I assume this is configured in LDAP somehow, but I am not sure. Thanks for any help or guidance. I am looking around via google, but wondering if anyone has real world experience, caveats, etc. Thanks,

AIP
