We have a server that was set up by somebody who no longer works with us and he didn't document it. It has 14TB of drive space but I can only see 5TB roughly, and it's a LVM. Is there a way for me to tell what type of RAID it's in? I'm also thinking about redoing the server, boss wanted something then changed his mind and now we have this backwards way of things, to help fix some of the problems we are having. If I were to redo the server what RAID would you guys recommend? It currently has 7 2TB hard drives but we will most likely add another 5 2TB drives to it for a total of 24 TB of space. If you need any more information I would gladly provide it. Thanks!
Edit It's a Dell PowerEdge, don't remember which one off the top of my head. If I were to redo the server I would want to have as much space as possible but where if I lose a disk or two in the future it won't kill me, I think that's RAID 6? I just don't know much about the pro's/con's of various RAID levels.
