Hello, /r/linuxadmin! I'm a journeyman Linux user looking to get some professional certification. LPIC-1 is being offered at Ohio Linuxfest at the end of the month, so I've decided to take its two tests.
What should I expect?
I've been using Linux since 2001. I've used it on the desktop since ~2003, and have actively used it on desktops, laptops, and servers daily since ~2007. I know my way around pretty well, but I've not really delved into a lot of the advanced sysadmin stuff because I'm a developer, not a sysadmin! I've run my own set of Internet-facing servers for several years and haven't had a break-in, so I must be doing something right ;-)
What are good study materials?
What areas should I focus on for my studying? I'm concerned about a perceived focus on command line options; I know the ones I use regularly, but rely on man pages for the less-frequently used stuff.
When I originally proposed the idea of getting certified to my manager, I thought I could probably just wing it. However, after reading a bit more about it, I find that there may be more to the test than what I've previously been told.
