I'm a Linux admin, and I've done enough Linux admin interviews to know how those go. But Friday I'm supposed to interview someone for a non-Linux position. We need someone who is generally interested in technology and can learn new things as they go. They'll be doing some Cisco, some SQL, some Asterisk, and some healthcare specific stuff that this subreddit has probably never heard of. It's totally fine if this person doesn't have specific experience with these things, as long as they are generally intelligent and interested in learning.
All the Linux interviews I have done (as an interviewee) have always been about "how can you find something in a log file?" (grep) or "how would you allocate more memory to the database?" (my.cnf). None of that will apply in this upcoming interview. I guess I am looking for things like "Tell me a story about a problem you solved with technology?" or "How would you configure XYZ if you haven't had any experience with XYZ before?"
Anyone have examples of interview questions that I might ask a person who needs to have a good head for technology, but not necessarily Linux?
