I'm setting up a linux box on a vmWare hypervisor and I've reached the point at which the installer asks me whether or not the system time is set to UTC. The hypervisor reports the time in the configuration panel as the same time as BST (British Summer Time, which is UTC+1). My question is: what time is the hypervisor passing to the VMs as the system time?
The only information the hypervisor provides is this note from the time configuration dialogue box: "Note: The host will handle the date and time data such that the vSphere client will receive the host's data in the vSphere Client's local time."
This leads me to believe the time I'm seeing reported by the hypervisor is adjusted for my local time (and thus that were I to set the time manually, rather than use a time server, that it would adjust it back one hour to account for the client from which I'm setting it being in the BST timezone at the moment).
Does anyone have any prior experience with this and know what time is being passed to the guest VMs?
