Contents of a log file

I'm looking for the best way to approach this situation: My team has a series of servers which we'd like to monitor, without investing time into a "proper" monitoring solution due to lack of requirements for this task.

There's this file, lets call it test.log, located in /var/log that I'd like to see the contents printed to an email and sent to me daily. They are a few Debian boxes in a sea of RHEL. My first attempt at getting the contents of this file from the Debian boxes was to schedule a Cron to mail me once every 24 hours, but I'm hitting roadblocks with our internal mail relay.

Am I over complicating this? Do you have suggestions?

I'm a little new to the game so my knowledge at this point is limited.
