Swap/Page writes/reads as estimation of needed RAM

Hi,

I have a Linux server with Oracle database, which started to appear in our BMC Patrol monitoring as writing and reading memory pages. From what I already investigated and read in the internet it's typical when there is not enough ram - pages are being written to swap area and read from it.

But is it possible to use that data - writes or read per second - to estimate how much memory should I extend the virtual machine so it's sufficient and not to just shoot blindly?
