Hello! Hoping you all could help solve a debate here in my office.
We had a RAID-6 array lose one hard drive the other week. At the same time, the filesystem was also going read-only. While the RAID was rebuilding the drive, we also decided to unmount and FSCK the filesystem that was mapped to that RAIDs logical disk.
The FSCK ran into issues but ultimately completed. However, there's a ton of files in lost+found. This is an external storage volume, so none of the files are system critical, but they are mission critical, and it looks like we lost a few dozen thousand.
The debate we're having is: would running FSCK on an ext3 filesystem while the external RAID enclosure is rebuilding a single drive cause a massive loss of files? If anyone can point me to a relevant source or website for this kind of information, that would also be great.
