Linux permissions in the enterprise

Hi all

As I trundle closer and closer to booking my RHCSA I thought I might ask people who are employed as *nix admins in Enterprise environments about how they handle file permissions.

The reason I ask is because of the seemingly 3 layered approach that I've been introduced to over the course of my studies, namely:

*standard file permissions (ugo/rwx) *ACLs *SELinux

The resources I have been using have been very helpful in explaining how you can set up or use these three types of security, but none have really explained why you would use one type over or in conjunction with another, or how you might expect to deal with these methods in an Enterprise environment.

Likely this knowledge is not necessary for the exam however as a (ahem) Windows admin it always makes things click a bit more if I can relate what I am learning to my own experience.

If anyone has any links or blog posts I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance!
