I need help, like a lot of it. Haha! This is a post to understand how to get to that next level.
So, with that in mind, I have been a Linux Administrator for nearly 10 years, my experience is 99% Red Hat (CentOS). I have my RHCSA, a partially-setup home server running CentOS (Starbound game server, Plex media server, file share, etc). I hold a subscription to Packt Publishing, purchase guides and magazines, and a masters degree. I work on Linux servers every day for work.
You would think I had it all figured out right? Hardly. Here is the crux of my issue. I am merely a SysAdmin. I can add users, setup networking, troubleshoot basic issues. However, I look at questions here, on sites like Stack Exchange, and try to help developers troubleshoot issues installing their applications on my servers. I try going through books or You Tube playlists, but I frequently get bored going over the same material. When I hit an issue, I am usually searching forums for the same issue and trying fixes until something works.
Here is my hope for this thread. I have plenty of space to play with Linux. I have plenty of chances to grow. I have a ton of information to lean on. How do I put it all together? How do I get to the point where I can look at a error stack in the logs without my eyes glazing over and just Googling the subject? I have tried jumping in and going 100% Linux, but get discouraged and ultimately go back to my Macbook. I don't want to just be a SysAdmin, I want to be a Linux Wizard, both at work and at home. I want to convert my home network into a Linux Utopia, be a Linux gamer, use Windows...never, unless there is a game that absolutely won't work on anything else.
How do I get there?
