I asked this question before, but the answers coming from that post has to do with permissions which wasn't what I wanted. I want to know in general why sometimes I end up in -bash-4.2$ when I ssh into a box? Here's an example without chdir errors at all.

bgops@git's password: Last failed login: Mon May 23 11:40:57 PDT 2016 from abc on ssh:notty There were 2 failed login attempts since the last successful login. -bash-4.2$ pwd /home/bgops -bash-4.2$
