Do you use Tinc for VPN? Did you manage to automate it? How about automating it with Ansible? How would you distribute the hosts keys? What about the IP-s and node/device names?

I really like tinc, however I have no idea how to get it automated.

I'm a bit familiar with ansible, however assigning IP-s, member node names and distributing keys seems to be a manual task.

So as per title, did you manage to sort those things out?

I consider Tinc to be mostly useful to connect remote devices over a virtual subnet, such as a web server with a database or two remote pfsense servers with their nat network.

If I want a proxy like solution, I'll install squid3 or openvpn.
