Sup /r/linuxadmin, I'm a Linux dude. I live it, love it, and worked with it for a few years now. I just recently (read today) just got laid off from HPE (Hewlett Packard Enterprise). I have been looking for a few weeks now for a Linux Admin role, even a Linux Engineering role and literally cannot find a "true" Linux Admin/Engineering role. It is becoming disheartening with what I've been seeing. Almost every single job I've looked at on dice/glassdoor/careerbuilder wants some hybrid nonsense. "I need you to have deep level Linux kernel knowledge, but I also need you to completely understand and have experience building Microsoft Clusters and blah blah blah"...
Is this what the world has become? Or am I bound by region issues (Houston TX). We have a lot of large companies here, but I am still not seeing what "I" want. And obviously the smaller footprint the business the more "hybrid" they want it. Am I really doomed to just learn the other side of things or is there still hope for those who want to only work with *Nix (Unix is fine).
Regards,
