How do you deal with friends/family who need computer help?

This might not be what you expected..

I have been employed in an IT role since just after high school (so 14 years or so now). My friends/family know I'm in IT. And so come the typical "my computer has a virus"/"this is bugging me about my PC"/"What do you think about this site/program?" type questions. Problem is, I'm a Linux/UNIX guy. Having a problem with your NIC in RHEL? Want to install GPFS or RHCS? Problem with your VM? OK I can help. But I'm unhelpful with the problems that seem to befall typical users. I have Win 7, Win XP and Vista running at home but we don't get viruses. Even my wife, who is not technical (she's not clueless by any means though) doesn't get in to any trouble with her laptop. Usually when someone gets a virus I recommend they wipe the system. Of course, in my case I have a local and offsite copy of the stuff I care about, so it's a pain to reinstall but my data is safe. Not true for most I guess.

Am I alone on this? Are you guys experts on Windows/viruses? Or do you play the "sorry I'm a linux guy" card frequently? I feel crappy when I can't help my friends but at the same time I have been down that road early in my career when I did more windows/support stuff and that sucked too. Thanks :)
