apache instead of nginx gitlab in rhel

Has anyone stood up an instance of gitlab with apache instead of nginx in a CentOS/RHEL box? What were the problems you encountered? which install method did you use?

I'm having trouble with this one as the auto-installer gitlab provides uses nginx. (our admins are 'apache' type folk)

And can this be setup to run without root access? The initial install needs root, but thereafter I want the application to run without root access.
