So I recently decided to switch to Linux Mint for my laptop for work. The other day, I accidentally grabbed the wrong set of house keys and couldn't get my laptop from my drawer so I grabbed an office loaner which happened to have Mint on it. However, the password they gave me did not work and since a lot of people aren't around for the holidays, no one knew the password.
I did a bit of googling and was able to change the boot loader to allow a passwordless root login that would allow me to reset anyone's password. I would like to know the best way to prevent this?
This article is a bit old, but probably holds true for current versions of ubuntu and mint. Is this the best approach by setting a password to the Grub? Sounds like the machine can still be vulnerable. Other approach would be to set a password to the Bios (dependent on the hardware)?
