Hello guys having a bit of an issue with my Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS headless server, the issue has been from the day i built the server.

The issue is following: The server freezes completely, server stops answering on ping, ssh stops, if i physically connect a screen and keyboard to the server nothing happens. Seemingly this happens at completely random times, server can be up and running for 30 days without this happening or just a couple of days. I usually reboot the server at least every 14 days, sometimes a bit longer or sometimes a bit shorter depending on updates and other factors.

What does the server run?: Plex(this is its mainly function) Virtualbox with ONE VM that runs Pfsense Deluge Flexget PlexPy Mumble Minecraft Teamspeak

Server specs: Operating system: Ubuntu server 14.04.4 LTS Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LX Systemdrive: Samsung SSD EVO Basic 840-Series 120GB Memory: HyperX Fury 16GB (2x8GB) CL10 1600MHz Blå CPU:Intel i7-3770k HDD: x6 two of them are still NTFS since i migrated to Ubuntu server from windows server, the other 4 drives are running ext4 filesystem.

All the parts above apart from the CPU was bought new at 2014-11-12 so its soon a year old. The CPU however was picked up used so that has a bit more "mileage" on it.

The most recent crash happened yesterday at right before 21:30, if i go through the logs(syslog, kernlog, bootlog, dmesg) there is no info before the crash at all, no entries. Entries start again when the server was rebooted. From what i have read usually no logging points to hardware problems, my guess(and prayers) are that its a memory issue. I have not tried the MagicSySRq key combination but im not sure that will work when the system is that frozen up?

Is there anyway to run a memtest with the server itself running? Any other hardware tests i could/should be running?

Any help regarding this is much appreciated,
