Levels of sql knowledge

I've been searching through job postings the last few days looking for my first job out of college (graduating in December). I've noticed that nearly all of the postings say they'd like somebody with SQL knowledge. I'm done a bit of SQL in my classes, mostly manipulating data. Is this what job postings are looking for, or is it more focused on the entire database rather than the data stored there?
