Choosing a solution for AD

I'm currently working for a small business that has been ran as single computers and using google drive for all their file storage. Seeing as how it's a internet marketing company it's not very smart to constantly sync files to Gdrive only to be downloaded on a computer 2 floors down. So I suggested to my boss to have a Active Directory server implemented with network storage to share files. However we need policies in place to control who can see what folders.

As to my dilemma. Our hosts comprise of about half mac and half windows with myself on ubuntu. I have been searching through a bunch of different Linux distros for what I need but I'm not able to find much concrete evidence about which direction I should take. I've looked into ClearOS and Zentyal but their isn't much or any information about being able to setup this system to work with all OS's. Is their any recommendations ya'll could give me to point me in the right direction of which route to go?
