Hi all I am looking for some advice regarding a linux environment I have been asked to build for new developers starting.

I have just taken a new job in a company which is currently 90% windows however they have also just hired three web developers as part of a transformation project.

The initial stack we planned to build as an IIS / SQL Server all MS job however the new developers have requested linux and I have been asked to look into what they require.

The project is to replace a 3rd party SAP / HR portal with one hosted in house which the developers will build.

So far their infrastructure requirements its must be "Linux" they really can't go into much more detail any questions I ask regarding a http server and sql back end is "linux" which doesn't provide much to go on.

I have been reading articles about how to build a scalable secure infrastructure and was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on the following stack.

Servers - hp gen9 dl380 * 4 with 128GB ram running as two ESXI 5.5 clusters.

Storage - HP 3PAR with flash FC and NL arrays. Operating System - Ubuntu or CENTOS 6 - Looked at 7 but wasn't too sure

Cache Server - Varnish HTTP Server - nginx SQL Backend - Mysql Load balancing - F5 loadbalancers however may attempt HA proxy.

The developers have ask for full Admin privileges which you can guess my thoughts on.

Ideally I would like to set up a git / subversion solution where they can push to Dev / uat & prod environments this now and later look at automatically provisioning services

I know I am trying to walk before I run however I have three months to build this then probably another 6 to tune the solution when the developers are building the Website however they need something to work and build on in the interim and would like at least the processes set out before they start, I don't want to give them admin rights etc this now and pull them back and more importantly I don't want to hear the phrase we used to have that so why cant we now etc.

Any thoughts and points in the right direction would be appreciated.

PS I don't dislike devs etc however I have issues in the past with former devs doing silly **** when they had full admin rights , file servers becoming iis servers etc which then become production servers :(
