Is it possible for learning purposes to create a Linux Cluster in a VMware environment?

I tried in the past to create a Windows2012 cluster in my Vmware ESXi home server but I could not finish it off because Windows had detected limitations on my virtual environment regarding network speed and few other parameters which had to do with hardware. Really there was no way around this unless I chocked out lots and lots of money to buy the proper hardware. Really Windows was refusing to proceed with the setup.

If I try to do the same thing with Linux, will I have the same fate? If not, that is great. Do you know of any worthwhile tutorials that show how to do this?
