I have reached the point of my RHCE studies where I'm learning about MTA and email in general. Or rather, not learning. I am confused as all heck. Does anyone know of any good resources that lay out the fundamentals of email? Though I can find resources that tell me what config changes to make etc. I still feel as though I don't understand the lay of the land so to speak, in the world of email.
One resource has explained that there are MTA, MDA, and MUAs that I need to be aware of, but I'm struggling to understand how this all relates to my experience of email, mainly web mail and Outlook clients.
I guess what I am asking is does anyone know of any good email 101 resources?
Otherwise I might just have to go through that behemoth of an email server tutorial that Ars Technica ran a while back. While I have no interest in permanently running an email server, it looks like it might be a solid bet for the fundamental but comprehensive understanding I am after.
