Fully non-interactive Debian patching

I'm a sysadmin. I've been a GNU/Linux devotee since the late 1990s and my current employer's environment is mostly composed of SuSE servers. That's all well and good, and everything is working in a nice automated way, but we've recently been tasked to add support for Debian GNU/Linux, which a handful of new servers will be using.

We are responsible for periodic system patching, and I've noticed that even with throwing the -y flag on apt-get or aptitude, patching still requires human intervention, in the form of the increasingly common, "press q to continue," changelog display. Does anyone know a way to suppress this or otherwise avoid having to hit q on every single server's patching?
