Resizing disk partitions on CentOS 6

I have searched for a guide/tutorial on resizing (growing) a non-root partition on a CentOS 6 server, but haven't found quite what I'm looking for. Could anyone here enlighten me? I'm adding 3 additional hard drives to the raid array. The partition is a non-LVM ext partition that is currently 2.4TB and will be closer to 3.3TB after this task is complete.

From what I've read, I delete the current partition (after backing up the data) using FDISK, recreate the larger partition then run resize2fs. The data should be there afterwards (but we having it backed up just in case). Does that sound right? Am I missing anything or not considering something?
