LDAP works on clients, but not server

Hello! I am setting up a small cluster of Raspberry Pis, and want to use LDAP to simplify keeping user accounts in sync. I followed the guide here: http://www.ducky-pond.com/posts/2012/Jul/installing-an-ldap-server-on-rpi/.

I ran the "Server setup" on one Pi node, and the "Client setup" on both the server, and a second Pi. I can login through LDAP on the second Pi, but am not able to on the server itself.

I'd like to be able to treat the client and server just the same. Any ideas???
