Zimbra OSS - Backup Options?

So I've created a nice test environment, running ZCS 7.1.4 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It's working great. I've got it integrated with an AD test environment and am very pleased. In the end, my goal is to move away from the Windows based hMailserver. Although it has done quite well for me in the past 3-4 years, I need more functionality and Zimbra floats my boat.

With that being said, Network Edition comes with hot backups, but the open source edition, does not. I am having a little difficulty understanding any of the backup procedures for the open source edition. What I do understand is that the DB (MYSQL), message store and indexes must all be backed up. When looking at some of the scripts I've seen available online, it looks like there are some tools that zimbra has that makes this a little easier.

What are your guys thoughts on backing up this information? I definitely do plan on doing a hell of a lot more research into this, but I guess I'm asking for you guys to point me in the right direction. The message stores seem simple enough to back up. I'm not familiar with the MYSQL backup, nor the backup of the indexes (provided through Lucene). The administrator's guide doesn't really touch on much.

If you are familiar with any of this what are your best practices for backing up data and putting all back together during a restore?

Thanks in advance!
