Well damn, now what?
End of Availability of all SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) for VMware. If you are still considering adding more SLES servers you will need to purchase more vSphere Standard licenses by June 25, 2014.
VMware is announcing the End of Availability (EoA) of all SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) for VMware offerings on June 25, 2014. As a result, the SLES for VMware offering will be removed from the VMware price list on July 25, 2014. After July 25, 2014, customers that purchase VMware vSphere Standard, vSphere Enterprise, or vSphere Enterprise+ (either standalone or as part of a suite) will no longer be eligible to a free SLES for VMware offering.
All support and maintenance for the removed versions will be unaffected and will continue on per VMware Lifecycle Policy through the published support period until August 25, 2016.
We're looking to purchase more SLES licenses, and were planning on doing so through our vmware vendor at a decent sized (free) discount. Now that won't be available, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
We're reasonably happy w/ Suse, as we've been clear of most of the security problems that have plagued operating systems w/ more up to date software (openssl anyone?).
I guess I'll call up novell and see what a license costs. Yay for more decisions I didn't want to make.
