Linux Systems Administrator
About the Job:
Blackbird Technologies, Inc. is seeking Linux Systems Administrators to support a customer project in Springfield, VA and corporate programs in Herndon, VA. The ideal candidates will be junior to mid-level Systems Administrators who have professional experience supporting numerous Linux Server environments. To be considered for these positions, qualified candidates must be willing and able to support a 24x7x365 operation that will include off-hours support and shift work.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: • Administer local and remote Linux-based servers • Develop and maintain highly available services including Linux clustering and redundant web services • Develop and maintain detailed backup and recovery strategies for multiple systems including databases and file servers • Develop and maintain a monitoring system to provide accurate, up-to-the-minute insight of systems status • Troubleshoot end user issues and system issues on a routine basis • Track and maintain systems equipment in inventory • Perform system analysis to evaluate security levels, system utilization and growth projections • Research, stage and implement new patches, rollouts and upgrades for various applications and hardware to maximize integrity and efficiency of the system • Maintain SOP and system architecture documentation for Certification and Accreditation support • As the projects develop, responsibilities may adjust as needed • Must successfully complete a technical assessment as part of the evaluation process
Requirements: • US Citizenship • Secret • 1-4 years of professional, educational or hands-on training experience in Linux systems administration • Must have the ability and willingness to support a 24x7x365 operation that requires shift work • Must have experience working with the following: o Server hardware o Linux/UNIX o Storage o Networking (strong understanding of TCP/IP) o Apache or similar HTTP server • Proficiency in at least one scripting language: Shell, Perl, Python • Must possess the ability to function in an environment with non-traditional implementations of standard COTS applications and hardware • Excellent interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to effectively interact and communicate with management, customers, and employees • Strong skills in IT fundamentals including, but not limited to: server administration, networking, database support/administration, scripting, infrastructure support • Motivated to learn new technologies and provide creative solutions to complex problems • The ability to provide exceptional technical communication, both written and oral, is a must
Desired Education/Skills: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an IT-related field • Previous experience working in 24x7 operational environments • Familiarity with SQL, Oracle RAC • Familiarity with Java, C, and other programming languages • Familiarity with systems monitoring and compliance tools • Basic understanding of SOAP, PHP, HTML, XML, SSL
