Hey.
First, I know i have posted about this before, so sorry for that.
And now to the question: I have a school running with a few VM's with our file server, LDAP server and a gaming server, the computers used is running windows 7, windows 8 and windows 8.1, and every single one is different models.
A few days ago i found some state rules about IT in schools and how it should be setup. I wasn't really suprised that we didn't follow the rules completely so i went to the owner of the school and showed him proof that we didn't follow the rules and he said directly: "Please fix this so we follow the rules, but we don't have any money to spend on IT stuff so you have to find a free way", and i just went out of the office without saying anything and began thinking of solutions... The only good solution i could come up with was to change all the computers to linux because it's free just like their server equivelant so right as i write this i have a vm running on my other screen to test Linux Mint (Because no one have any Linux knowledge) and set it up to authenticate users with our LDAP server so i can get it to automount our file server shares with the right credentials and permissions. But then i was thinking: "What about some monitoring of what is installed and stuff like that on all the computers", because today for example i found a computer filled with not so legal stuff on that a young student had downloaded because one of the teachers told the admin password to them... So does any of you know a solution like Spiceworks for linux only environment? Do any of you have any tips for me or recommendations of what stuff i should get for the environment, like VM's, software or anything?
Sorry for the long post and thank you for reading this :)
