I have a spare core2quad box lying around gathering dust, so I've decided why not linux? I'd like to turn this box into a "hybrid" firewall / workstation (so I can ditch my linux vm)
I'd like to learn more about security, so running a secure/hardened distro would be important
I want to (if feasible) remote desktop to the linux box from my primary windows machine, this would be how I'd work on it day to day.
I'm confortable in a shell, but by no means an expert, easy setup/maintainability would be great, although I don't mind getting my hands dirty, my plan here is to learn more.
Basically I want the best of both worlds my Windows machine and a linux machine (which is also a firewall/router). I'd be grateful for any suggestions/ideas on the best way I can achieve something like this.
